The fifth chaos god of terror and anarchy, what sets him apart from the other chaos gods (other than the fact that he was retconned) is the fact that he can manifest himself in the material realm by possessing his greatest champion and he constantly trolls the other patron gods greater daemons.
For instance, he binds a Lord of Change while locking it up in a never changing cage, creating an impenetrable force field around a Bloodthirster in a Zen garden, having a Great Unclean one contained within a vat of detergents and last, but not least, binding a Keeper of Secrets in a box while it watches its fellow Daemonettes engage in coked up orgies through a peep hole the same way Malal has to look at the material realm through a peep hole known as the Tyrant Star.
He has his own warband dedicated to him known as the Sons of Malice, who are just as bugshit crazy as he is.

Malal was ultimately too awesome for the "Grimderp" setting of 40k... hence why they had to get rid of him.
